Anniversary Accolades: Doylestown Township
Proclamation
A Proclamation of the Board of Supervisors, Township of Doylestown, County of Bucks, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, recognizing the Twentieth Anniversary of Roxy Therapy Dogs.
Whereas, since its inception in 2005, Roxy Therapy Dogs started to help, comfort and support children and;
Whereas, Roxy Reading began with one dog in one class at Gayman Elementary School and expanded to Linden Elementary and;
Whereas, known as the Roxy Therapy Dogs Program, now is in every school within the Central Bucks School District providing support and comfort to students and;
Whereas, in 2010, the organization gained its 501(c)(3) nonprofit status and;
Whereas, by 2011, the Courthouse Companionship Program began at the request of the Honorable Robert J. Mellon, being the first of its kind in Pennsylvania and;
Whereas, in 2013, the Pediatric Comfort Program started at Pedia Manor, a residential facility for children, who are too medically frail to live at home, and;
Whereas, in 2014, Doylestown Hospital designated Roxy as the only therapy dog organization to visit children in the newly formed Della Penna Pediatric Unit and;
Whereas, in 2016, Roxy Therapy Dogs was recognized by the Bucks County Commissioners as well as publishing a book for children titled "Be Like Bud,” and;
Whereas, in 2017, Roxy changed its name from Roxy Reading to Roxy Therapy Dogs to represent the diversity of its programs; and;
Whereas, Roxy has continued to work with schools, creating Roxymobile with identifying logo, and media platforms, so everyone knows about the work of the organization throughout our Community and;
Whereas, Roxy Therapy Dogs has been recognized by the Bucks County Bar Foundation by receiving the William H. Eastburn Il Award for the work the dogs do to bring peace and calm to those who must be in a courtroom and;
Whereas, after twenty years, Roxy Therapy Dogs has six programs, 78 teams, and 30 human volunteers. Roxy Therapy Dogs is a free service and has teams in all 23 schools within the Central Bucks School District;
NOW, THEREFORE, Doylestown Township hereby proclaims and recognizes Roxy Therapy Dogs for its twenty years of service to our Community. Duly Proclaimed this 13th day of May, 2025.
